TRAFFIC & PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS ON WINTERS CHAPEL ROAD
The City of Peachtree Corners has kicked off a Capital Improvement Project on Winters Chapel Road along the frontage of the DeKalb County Water System facilities.  The current traffic operations utilize two through lanes that are directly adjacent to one another, which means any time a left turning vehicle slows down to make a turn, it can lead to a backup of traffic.  There are currently two unused paved shoulders as well.  This project will change the layout of the lane configuration to make use of the extra, unused space on this section of the road. A center turn lane will be added in order to eliminate traffic backups and potential rear end collisions that could occur in the existing configuration.  That turn lane can be used when turning left into the Parkwood Village Apartments and the DeKalb Water facilities.  The through lane will be on the outside of the new center turn lane allowing other motorists to drive past the left turning vehicle and not get backed up waiting for them to turn.
In addition to the new lane configuration, a Pedestrian Crossing with rapid flashing beacons and a center lane refuge island will be installed near the Parkwood Village Apartments.  Based on a study the City conducted, the data identified that a large number of pedestrians cross Winters Chapel Road in this general area, and this project will provide a much safer way for those residents to cross this heavily travelled road.
While this project will greatly increase safety for pedestrians and vehicles, this type of construction will require work that will adversely affect travel in the area during the construction process which is expected to last approximately 5 weeks.  Impacts to traffic are unfortunately inevitable, but those impacts will be kept to the minimum amount possible.  The longer term positive effects of the project should outweigh the short term inconvenience of the traffic disruptions.  Intermittent lane closures will be used.  A flag crew and signage will be installed during those periods and the lane closures will be done outside of the peak traffic volume segments of the day. Winters Chapel Road is an important part of Peachtree Corners and the City continues to make improvements to this corridor for both vehicles and pedestrians that will be enjoyed by the community for many years to come.

HOW TO ACCESS THE CLOSED-GROUP LOCKRIDGE FOREST FACEBOOK PAGE
It is the policy of the LFCA to only allow residents and property owners of Lockridge Forest on the closed FB page. In order to be approved, you must be registered on our website at www.lockridgeforest.net. A clean up of this page is done each year, if you find that you are removed in the following days, please register and then ask for approval and you will be approved immediately. The exception to this is if you have elderly relatives who live here and are not on FB. This policy is in place to protect sensitive information that may be shared about empty houses and private information. Feel free to PM message Joan Smith, if you have any questions.

PLEASE BE SURE YOU ARE SEEN WHEN WALKING IN THE DARK
As we drive through the subdivision during the hours of darkness, we often see individuals walking their dogs or walking for fitness and they are not very visible. Please understand that drivers can't see you very well in the dark unless you are wearing reflective clothing or carrying a light. We hope you'll heed this advice as it could save you from being the victim of an accident. Thank you.
